Of course it is Canada. The place where mediocrity and corruption is so rampant.

This is just the oddest take. What weird Canada-hating echo chamber did you just step out of?

I've spent many years in the USA. It's got its merits, but generally, I prefer it up here.

Things I like about it here:

- We have a functioning federal government that can still pass bills; cf https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/30/us/politics/house-retiree...

- Our infrastructure is significantly less crumbly; I trust our bridges

- I enjoy not being shot randomly

- CBC Music (formerly CBC 2) is kind of amazing right now; I always used to regret that we didn't have NPR, but the deep-dives into jazz, blues, opera, classical, and R&B are national treasures; _After Dark_ is nearly always on in my home as I read myself to sleep.

Glad I'm not alone in finding it to be a radio 2 renaissance. I loved Laurie Brown but Tarek is killing it on air. Choral concert on Sunday morning is divine. Deep dive bringing Feist and Iron and Wine to my parents? Yes please.

is this madcow part 2?

According to the article, this scientist and the doctor caring for the patients think it's environmental, possibly Roundup related.

> But in the leaked email, [Coulthart] wrote that he believes an “environmental exposure – or a combination of exposures – is triggering and/or accelerating a variety of neurodegenerative syndromes”

> Coulthart’s email emerged more than a year after [neurologist] Marrero pleaded with the Canadian government to carry out environmental testing he believed would show the involvement of glyphosate.

Why would they need to be so secretive about it if that were the case? Certainly leads me to more conspiratorial lines of thought.

NB gov is just typically very secretive for no reason... But also the province is joked to be essentially a fiefdom of the Irving family, for better or worse.

“Sold my soul to Irving oil” “Pawned my soul to pay Irving oil”

And the like …

At least we can be sure this has absolutely nothing to do with protecting the interests of agrochemical manufacturers! (/s)
